Soar Over the Temples and Countryside of Cambodia with Anantara Angkor Resort’s New Hot-Air Ballooning Experience

A luxurious oasis of Khmer-inspired suites, Anantara Angkor Resort adds a thrilling new adventure to its array of unforgettable guest experiences, in partnership with Cambodia Balloon Adventures, the first fully licensed hot-air balloon company in the country. Available from November to March, the airborne experience is an unparalleled opportunity to explore the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Angkor Wat and the scenic countryside with its tapestry of rice paddies and ancient aqueducts from a perspective few visitors get to see.

As the sun rises behind the sacred mountain of Phnom Bok, sending dramatic shadows over misty fields, the majestic hot-air balloon takes to the skies to reveal an otherworldly landscape glowing with fiery hues. Leaving behind the scenic ruins of the 12th century temple of Banteay Samré, the travellers embark on a timeless voyage of wonder and discovery, enjoying a lovely early-morning tableau of farmers working the rice field, graceful egrets in flight and buffaloes staring up in wonder from the shade of towering toddy palms.

In this part of the country, where life hasn’t changed for hundreds of years, the ancient Khmer culture and traditions are still alive and cherished by the people, who welcome visitors with warm smiles and hospitality.

The price of Anantara Angkor’s new hot-air ballooning experience is USD $350 per person, including roundtrip hotel transfers, refreshments, safety briefing, a celebratory drink after the landing and a commemorative flight certificate signed by the pilot. Depending on the wind conditions, flights last between 35 and 60 minutes, with sunrise and sunset itineraries available. All balloons are registered under the UK Civil Aviation Authority, insured through Lloyds of London and operated by pilots holding UK, EU and US commercial pilot licences.

Guests can also choose to combine their hot-air balloon adventure with the exclusive ‘Angkor Ultra Luxury’ stay package, which starts from USD $950 per night based on two people sharing and includes scenic countryside rides by bicycle, quad, Vespa or vintage jeep; kayaking through the floating villages of Tonle Sap lake; horseback adventures in the wilderness for all levels; golfing at one of the three world-class golf courses nearby; cooking classes with Anantara’s signature Spice Spoons experience; healing Khmer massage therapies; and more.
