Anantara Chiang Mai Resort unveils its new afternoon tea service, an ode to the English ritual of refinement and enjoyment, held daily in the gardens of the former British consulate on the banks of the Ping River.
The ritual of afternoon tea began among the English aristocracy in the 1800s. It was a small indulgence, an occasion to look forward to, to dress up for, and to share with friends.
Anantara Chiang Mai Resort’s new afternoon tea pays homage to the historic roots of the tradition. The setting could not be more ideal, on the verandah of what was Her Majesty’s consulate which dates back 100 years.
Each detail of the experience has been carefully designed by Chef David Eldridge and team, beginning with the fine porcelain. It has been sourced from Wedgwood, official potter to Her Majesty since the time of Queen Charlotte. The Paeonia Blush collection was chosen in a nod to Chiang Mai’s floral surrounds – it also has a hint of the Asian exotique.
The tea begins with delicate finger sandwiches and tartlets, then freshly baked scones with authentic Devonshire clotted cream. A selection of patisserie follows, and, perfect for Thailand’s warm weather, homemade tropical sorbet.
Guests enjoy a choice of loose-leaf teas from the TWG and Monsoon collections, as well as hot or iced coffee. Additional options include sparkling wine, an old-fashioned G&T, or a bubbly cocktail.
Afternoon tea is served daily 2.00 pm to 5.00 pm, beginning at THB 790++ per person or THB 1,390++ for two. For more information or reservations, call +66 53 253 333, email chiangmai@anantara.com or visit https://www.anantara.com/en/chiang-mai/restaurants/afternoon-tea
